Staying Safe in your Rented Accommodation
Faulty gas appliances, pipework and poor or blocked ventilation can be life-threatening so it's imperative that your landlord arranges annual gas safety checks to ensure that all gas appliances are safe and fit for use.
By law landlords are generally responsible for making sure that gas fittings and flues are maintained in good order, and that gas appliances and flues are checked for safety once every 12 months. They must keep a record of the safety checks for two years and issue the latest certification to existing tenants and new tenants before they move in. Please remember that if you own the appliance you are responsible for its maintenance and safety checks.
